Washington, March 10 — Elon Musk-led social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced its second major outage in a day, leaving thousands unable to access the site.
Downdetector, which tracks online disruptions, recorded over 40,000 outage reports worldwide, including more than 21,000 in the U.S. and 10,800 in the UK. Users reported difficulties loading pages and refreshing timelines. “Twitter went down for an hour but seems to be okay now?” an X user posted, while another wrote, “Everyone going to X now Twitter is down.”
Services were restored shortly after the outage, though the cause remained unclear. Downdetector noted that its data is based on user reports, meaning the actual number of affected users could be higher.
Musk, who acquired Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion, rebranded it as X, replacing the blue bird logo with a white X and changing “tweets” to “posts” and “retweets” to “reposts.” While the domain “twitter.com” remains, the platform has undergone significant changes under his leadership.
A PA Media report revealed that X is in talks with investors to raise funds at the same $44 billion valuation, signaling potential financial recovery despite advertiser and user concerns.
