J&K, 13 January 2025- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg area of ​​J&K. He praised the workers who contributed to the construction of the tunnel and saluted their dedication. He said that this tunnel was possible due to the determination of those workers, who worked in the most difficult conditions and never cared about their lives.

Paying tribute to the worker who lost his life in the construction of the tunnel, Prime Minister Modi said that despite the tragic incident, no worker went back home. Their dedication, love for the country and the state inspires us.

Describing Kashmir as the crown of India, the Prime Minister said that we want Kashmir to be even more beautiful and prosperous. The people here are working hard day and night to turn their dreams into reality. Referring to the natural beauty of Sonamarg, he said that the white-covered hills here make the heart happy.

Prime Minister Modi described this tunnel as an important project not only for Jammu and Kashmir but for the entire country. He said that with the opening of this tunnel, travel and trade in J&k will get a new impetus, which will open new avenues of development in the region.

The people here always welcomed him warmly despite snowfall and cold winds.

The Prime Minister mentioned festivals like Maha Kumbh, Lohri, Makar Sankranti, and Pongal and described the festive atmosphere across the country. He said that today Maha Kumbh is starting in Prayagraj, where lakhs of people are flocking for the holy bath.

Launch of rail division and connectivity projects

Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the foundation stone laying of the recent rail division in Jammu and called it a big gift for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the Sonamarg Tunnel will give a new wing to tourism in the region, and many road and rail connectivity projects are going to be completed in Jammu and Kashmir in the coming time.

Sonamarg Tunnel and Development of Tourism

Modi said that the construction work of Sonamarg Tunnel started after the formation of the Central Government in 2015. He said that this tunnel will prove to be very helpful in the winters of Kashmir, which will promote tourism.

Increasing number of tourists in J&K

Underlining the development taking place in the tourism sector of Jammu and Kashmir, the PM said that more than 2 crore tourists visited the state in 2024 and Sonamarg has seen 6 times more tourists in the last 10 years.

The Prime Minister saluted the hard work and dedication of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and said that all this is not the result of any one government, but the hard work of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister said that now the connectivity projects will lead to rapid development of this region. The people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are now moving in a new direction.
