EC to Introduce Software Option to Detect ‘Ghost’ Voters

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, March 18 — The Election Commission has introduced a new software option to detect ‘ghost’ voters by identifying multiple names linked to a single Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number, an official said on Tuesday.

The move comes after the Trinamool Congress raised concerns over fake voters. The new module will help Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) spot and correct duplicate EPIC entries, the official added.

“The chief electoral officers in all states have been informed about this decision,” he said, adding that a letter was sent on Monday, instructing them to implement the new module.

In West Bengal, Acting Chief Electoral Officer Dibyendu Das held a virtual meeting with district officials to discuss the decision. He directed them to complete corrections in the state’s voter list by March 21.
