Dust Storm, Rain Bring Temporary Relief to Delhi-NCR

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, April 10 — A sudden dust storm followed by rain swept across Delhi-NCR on Thursday, offering much-needed respite from the soaring heat. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted light drizzle and thunderstorms, along with a chance of lightning, a day earlier.

Despite the change in weather, temperatures remained high in several parts of the city. The maximum temperature in Delhi touched 40.5°C, while the minimum stood at 25.9°C — nearly 6 degrees above normal. Aya Nagar recorded the highest temperature at 40.9°C, with mercury also crossing 40°C in Palam and Safdarjung.

According to IMD officials, the shift in weather was triggered by a western disturbance currently affecting the northern plains. “Due to this disturbance, we expect a marginal dip of 1–2 degrees in temperature over the next day,” an official said.

However, the relief may be short-lived. “Once the effect of the western disturbance subsides, temperatures are likely to rise again,” weather experts noted.

As per the IMD’s technical parameters, Thursday still qualified as a hot day in most parts of the capital, with temperatures above the 40°C mark persisting across multiple monitoring stations.
