New Delhi, March 15 — A Mahindra Thar SUV crashed into a scooter at a traffic signal in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar, killing one elderly man and critically injuring another.
The driver, identified as Himanshu from Chilla village, was under the influence of alcohol, police said. The victims, Shyam Chand and Surajmal Verma, were heading to Chilla crematorium on a scooter when the SUV rammed into them near Crowne Plaza hotel.
Shyam Chand died on the spot, while Surajmal Verma is undergoing treatment at Max Hospital. The same vehicle later hit another car before speeding away.
A hit-and-run case has been registered, and police have formed a team to track down the accused.
Earlier this week, a similar incident occurred in Noida’s Sector 16 market, where a Thar driver, following a dispute with a shop owner, rammed into multiple vehicles while driving on the wrong side. He was later arrested.
