Chandigarh, March 7 — Punjab will introduce drug awareness education in schools as part of a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Punjabi University Patiala, and the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) Patiala. The agreement was formalized at the office of Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
“This initiative is a crucial step in Punjab’s fight against drug addiction. Education will help sustain anti-drug efforts beyond disrupting supply chains,” Yadav said.
Under the MoU, EMRC Patiala will develop digital content for the program, while Punjabi University will oversee its implementation. The curriculum, created in collaboration with ANTF Punjab and experts from academic, medical, and legal fields, will be reviewed by an editorial board to ensure accuracy.
Initially, the course will be introduced for students in grades nine through twelve, with plans to make it a permanent part of the ninth-grade syllabus. The program includes 10 hours of video lessons divided into 20 modules, supported by a booklet in both Punjabi and English.
Set to launch in the upcoming academic session, the initiative seeks to equip students with awareness and preventive education, reinforcing Punjab’s broader strategy against drug abuse.
