New Delhi, 3 January 2025 – Friday morning saw severe travel disruptions in Delhi as dense fog reduced visibility to almost zero, resulting in delays for more than 100 flights at the capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
The thick fog caused low visibility, though operations continued at the airport. However, flights not equipped for low-visibility conditions under the CAT III system faced significant delays. “Takeoffs and landings are proceeding, but flights that are not CAT III compliant might experience delays. Passengers are urged to check with airlines for updates on their flight status. We apologize for any inconvenience,” Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) stated on X at 6:35 a.m.
The airport handles roughly 1,300 flights daily. With the fog persisting, airlines have advised travelers to confirm schedules before heading to the airport, warning that ongoing weather issues could lead to cancellations.
Train services were similarly impacted, with delays affecting at least 24 trains out of Delhi. Among the disrupted services, the Ayodhya Express was delayed by four hours, while the Gorakhdham Express and Bihar Kranti Express faced delays of over two and three hours respectively. The Shram Shakti Express also saw significant setbacks.
Commuters are urged to stay updated on train and flight schedules as weather conditions continue to cause widespread travel delays in Delhi.
