Rahul Gandhi vs RSS on India's independence

New Delhi, 15 January 2025- Congressman Rahul Gandhi attacked Mohan Bhagwat harshly on Wednesday, claiming that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief’s assertion that India gained “true independence” following the inauguration of the Ram temple was an insult to all Indians and a form of treason.

Leader of the Opposition was speaking at the opening of the new Congress headquarters, “Indira Gandhi Bhawan,” on Kotla Road in New Delhi.

We are fighting BJP, RSS, and the Indian state itself': Rahul Gandhi hits out at Mohan Bhagwat | India News - The Indian Express

Rahul Gandhi accused RSS of insulting Indians

“Mohan Bhagwat has the audacity to inform the nation every 2-3 days what he thinks about the independent movement, Constitution. What he said yesterday is a crime because it states that the Constitution is invalid, and the fight against the British was invalid. He has the audacity to say this publicly, in any other country, he would be arrested and tried,” Rahul Gandhi said in his speech.

Saying that India did not achieve independence in 1947 is an insult to all Indians, according to Rae Bareli MP.

“It’s about time we stop listening to this nonsense that these people think they can just keep parroting out and shouting and screaming,” Rahul Gandhi added.

Statement by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

Mohan Bhagwat said on Monday that India got its ‘true independence’ the day Ram Mandir was built in Ayodhya.

“After India got political independence from the British on August 15, 1947, a written Constitution was made according to the path shown by that specific vision, which comes out of the ‘self’ of the country, but the document was not run according to the spirit of the vision at that time,” Mohan Bhagwat said.

According to the RSS chief, the inauguration date of the Ram Mandir should be observed as “Pratishtha Dwadashi” since it marks the establishment of Bharat’s true independence, which had been threatened by “parachakra” (enemy attacks) for several centuries.

Political parties reacted strongly to the comments, with Sanjay Raut, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), stating that “no politics in Ram Lalla’s name” should be used. Rahul Gandhi has now been added to the list.
