CHANDIGARH, April 16: — The cyber crime cell has busted a multi-state gang running online job fraud schemes, arresting six individuals accused of duping job seekers through fake airline offers and social media advertisements.
The arrests followed an FIR registered on March 28, based on a complaint by Raj Kumar, a resident of Sector 20-A, who reported being cheated of ₹1.4 lakh. He told police that he received a call on September 23, 2024, offering him a position with Vistara Airlines. The process included an online interview and a forged offer letter.
“Under the pretense of formalities like registration, security, insurance, account setup, and even cabin rental fees, the victim was made to transfer money in multiple transactions through UPI,” said a police official involved in the investigation.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kunal Kumar, 22, of Bulandshahr; Jeet Singh Sandhuja, 46, of Ghaziabad; Shan-e-Azam, 33, of Delhi, who has a previous record in a similar fake call center scam in Noida; Shah Faizal Ansari, alias Aditya, Binni, and Ashu, 34, of Delhi; Himanshu Kumar, 23, of Delhi; and Rahul Kumar, 22, of Preet Vihar, Delhi.
Police said the gang operated by posting fake job advertisements on Facebook and other platforms, promising employment in airlines, malls, and other sectors. Once potential candidates responded, they were subjected to a staged recruitment process before being asked to pay various charges.
Raids conducted in Delhi and Ghaziabad led to the arrests and seizure of 17 mobile phones with active SIM cards, a laptop, two forged documents, and two cheque books.
“These fraudsters used multiple aliases and created a convincing recruitment environment to trap job seekers,” said a senior officer from the cyber crime unit. Investigations are ongoing to trace further victims and digital evidence linked to the operation.
