CU Announces India’s First AI-Enhanced Campus at Unnao

LUCKNOW, 3 January 2025 — Chandigarh University (CU), the leading private educational institution in India, has unveiled plans for India’s first AI-powered campus, set to open in the Lucknow State Capital Region (SCR) at Unnao. Slated to launch in the 2025-26 academic year, the campus will offer innovative, AI-augmented programs designed to prepare students for the rapidly evolving workforce of the future.

The new AI-enhanced campus will offer 43 undergraduate and postgraduate programs across a diverse range of disciplines including Engineering, Business Administration, Health and Life Sciences, Humanities, Liberal Arts, and Legal Studies. This forward-thinking approach reflects Chandigarh University’s commitment to shaping students’ learning experiences in alignment with the demands of the digital age.

At a press conference held at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay officially launched the web portal and prospectus for the university’s Unnao campus. Speaking at the event, Upadhyay shared how this development aligns with the state’s broader objectives, including its push for economic growth through technology and education.

“The integration of AI in our education system is an essential part of Uttar Pradesh’s strategy to become a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030,” Upadhyay said. He also noted that the state is establishing India’s first AI City in Lucknow, a project aimed at creating 50,000 new jobs in AI-related fields over the next five years.

Sandhu, Chancellor of Chandigarh University and a Rajya Sabha MP, stressed the university’s commitment to elevating education standards in India through its focus on AI and emerging technologies. “Chandigarh University’s Unnao campus brings AI education to Uttar Pradesh, offering students the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the world of tomorrow,” he said.

In line with the government’s goals, the campus will be an integral part of Uttar Pradesh’s growing AI ecosystem, providing students with access to cutting-edge learning and career opportunities. Sandhu highlighted the broader national context, pointing to the IndiaAI mission, which seeks to position India as a global leader in AI innovation and technology.

Mukesh Jain, Executive Vice President at Capgemini, also praised the initiative, stating that AI is set to drive significant job creation worldwide. “Far from causing widespread job losses, AI is driving economic growth and new opportunities,” Jain said. “India will see a dramatic rise in AI-related jobs, which will fuel the growth of sectors ranging from tech to healthcare.”

As part of the university’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in AI and science, Chandigarh University will offer scholarships totaling Rs 40 crore for the 2025-26 academic year through its national entrance exam, CUCET. Additionally, the university will present Rs 3 crore in ‘CV Raman Scholarships’ to support students pursuing careers in scientific research.

Chandigarh University Managing Director Jai Inder Singh Sandhu highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the campus. “We are embedding AI across various fields like engineering, social sciences, humanities, and business to ensure that students are equipped to navigate and lead in an AI-enhanced world,” he said.

Ranked number one among private universities in India according to the QS Asia University Rankings 2025, Chandigarh University continues to lead the way in delivering high-quality education. The new Uttar Pradesh campus is expected to attract students and contribute to the region’s educational and technological advancements.

CU is currently accepting applications for the 2025-26 academic session via the CUCET, with opportunities for significant financial assistance and scholarships.
