New Delhi, March 7 — YouTubers and comedians behind the controversial show India’s Got Latent appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday, expressing regret over their remarks and assuring they would be more mindful of their words, NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar said on Friday.
Among those who faced the panel were YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, comedians Samay Raina—who hosts the show—Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Mukhija, and Ashish Chanchlani. Producers Saurabh Bothra and Tushar Poojari, along with lawyers representing Singh and Chanchlani, were also present, sources cited by PTI said.
The controversy erupted after an episode featuring Allahbadia’s comments on parents and sex, along with remarks by Mukhija, drew backlash online.
NCW Calls Language ‘Absolutely Indecent’
Speaking to reporters, NCW chief Rahatkar condemned the content. “The obscene language used in the show is absolutely indecent and unacceptable to society or the Commission,” she said. “We took immediate cognizance and issued notices.”
According to Rahatkar, the creators admitted their mistake and pledged to be more responsible. “They apologized and said they would be careful with their words in the future,” she said. A video from the briefing, shared by ANI, captured her saying, “They assured us this was the first and last time.”
“Ranveer Allahbadia and others acknowledged that while they cannot take back their words, they will ensure greater respect in their speech moving forward,” Rahatkar added.
FIRs Filed, Supreme Court Steps In
Several FIRs were lodged against Allahbadia, known as BeerBiceps, over his comments on Samay Raina’s show.
The Supreme Court granted him interim protection from arrest but criticized his remarks, calling them “vulgar” and stating that he had a “dirty mind” that brought shame to society.
