Punjab’95 depicting Jaswant Singh Khalra’s life
Punjab ’95 is about the life of human rights advocate Jaswant Singh Khalra, who revealed the unlawful killings of Sikh men by the Punjab Police during the militancy in the late 1990s. In 1995, he was captured and killed. Six Punjab Police officers were later found guilty of his kidnapping and murder.
Khalra’s wife, Paramjit Kaur Khalra, stated that the biopic about her husband’s life was made with the family’s approval and ought to be released uncut after the Censor Board suggested 120 cuts to the movie.
His wife claims that after reading the script more than four years ago, her family gave director Honey Trehan permission to use Dosanjh as Khalra in the film. She said they also watched the film in 2022 and were satisfied with its depiction of Khalra’s struggle for human rights during a critical period in Punjab’s history.
