Constable Held for Rs 60K Bribe Demand

by TheReportingTimes

Amritsar, April 15 — Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested Constable Adarshdeep Singh, posted with CIA-2 Staff in Amritsar, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 60,000 to avoid filing an FIR.

The arrest followed a complaint received on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line, where a resident alleged that Singh had already taken Rs 50,000 and was pressing for the remaining Rs 10,000 in exchange for not registering a case against his neighbour, Kishan Kumar.

The complainant claimed that Kumar, previously involved in drug trafficking, had turned over a new leaf and now worked as a private security guard. Despite a recent police raid yielding no incriminating material, the constable allegedly continued demanding money.

Vigilance officials confirmed the complaint’s allegations after investigation. Singh was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and taken into custody. He will be produced in court on Wednesday.
