Chandigarh, 5 February 2025- After another grenade attack in the Fatehgarh Churian police post in Amritsar, the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday sought Punjab Chief Minister-cum-Home Minister Bhagwant Mann’s resignation due to his inefficacy in handling the home department.
“This is the 11th such incident in the state since mid-November last year. However, the Punjab Police, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry, remained inefficient in preventing such incidents. Handling the Home Department is a full-time job, yet Mann seems to have taken it casually. If he cannot perform, he has no right to stay in the position,” Bajwa added.
Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that the Punjab CM was either busy touring Australia to witness a cricket match or campaigning for the Delhi election when the blasts shook up the border belt. If the Punjab Police under the AAP government cannot protect itself how can it protect the civilians? This has been the height of the insincerity towards his position.
“The law order and situation in Punjab has been hitting a new low ever since the AAP got hold of the power. The incidents of extortion from the businessmen by the organized gangs in the state have been a new normal,” Bajwa stated.
In a statement, Bajwa said that in a recent incident, two motorcycle-bourne men fired gunshots at the residence of Mansa-based transporter Pargat Singh, who is close to the family of slain rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, on Sunday night. Pargat also received a WhatsApp message that said he would be killed if he did not pay extortion money of Rs 30 lakh. Is this the kind of Rangla Punjab, the AAP always wanted to build?
