Congress Begins Grassroots Overhaul in Punjab

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, April 12: In a key organisational push, the Congress on Friday began revamping its structure at the grassroots level in Punjab, with an eye on the 2027 Assembly elections.

The move was formalised during a meeting chaired by AICC general secretary Bhupesh Baghel, who held discussions with Punjab Congress chiefs and members of the party’s political affairs committee. Baghel said the focus was on rebuilding strength at the district and booth level, with training for block and booth incharges topping the agenda.

“The aim is to activate the grassroots machinery. Workers will be trained to regularly scrutinise voter lists and provided relevant material,” a senior leader said.

Meanwhile, several leaders urged Baghel to resolve the ongoing rift between state Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and senior leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu, the party’s Ludhiana (West) bypoll candidate. They proposed a joint meeting between Warring, Ashu and CLP leader Partap Bajwa to settle differences and plan poll strategy. Ashu has earlier accused the state leadership of abandoning him during vigilance probes.
