mallikarjun kharge commented on Kumbh

Muzaffarpur, 28 January 2025- A complaint has been filed in Muzaffarpur Court against Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. This case is related to an alleged controversial statement made by senior Congress leader Kharge in Madhya Pradesh regarding Kumbh bath.

Advocate Sudhir Ojha filed complaint

This complaint has been filed by local advocate Sudhir Ojha. Advocate Ojha has accused Kharge of hurting religious sentiments. Plaintiff Sudhir Ojha alleged that the Congress President has played with the sentiments of Sanatani Hindus for political gain. The complaint states that Mallikarjun Kharge’s statement has hurt the faith of Hindus. The hearing of this case is going on in Muzaffarpur Court. The court has fixed the date of next hearing as 3 February 2025.

Legal aspect of the case

Advocate Sudhir Ojha claims that Kharge’s statement has not only hurt religious sentiments but also attempted to create religious imbalance in the society. The complaint filed in the court mentions various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including charges of hurting religious sentiments and disturbing public peace.

Waiting for Kharge’s response

So far, no official response has come from Mallikarjun Kharge or the Congress party on this complaint. All eyes are on the upcoming hearing of the court.

Controversial statement became a matter

In fact, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s dip in the Triveni Sangam and asked whether bathing in the Ganges will end poverty. He alleged that BJP leaders are competing to take a dip for the cameras. Addressing the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhaan’ rally in Mahu, Kharge said, “BJP leaders take a dip as long as it looks good on camera.” However, he also said that he is not questioning anyone’s faith and if anyone is hurt by his statement, he apologizes.

Kharge said that do not fall prey to Modi’s false promises. “Does taking a dip in the Ganga end poverty? Does it fill your stomach? I do not want to question anyone’s faith. If anyone is offended, I apologize.” Kharge remarked. He further said that when children are dying of hunger, not going to school, laborers are not getting their wages, then these people are competing to take a dip in the Ganga by spending thousands of rupees.

It is worth noting that before this statement of Kharge, Amit Shah took a dip in the Triveni Sangam during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. Along with him, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also took a dip in the Ganga at different times. Shah also held a special meeting with top saints in Sangam area.

‘Rahul Gandhi is fighting for you’

Kharge said, “Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, was born on this very land of Mahu (Ambedkar Nagar) on 14 April 1891. One person tried his best to get the rights of the untouchables, Dalits, tribals, backwards and the poor in the entire country. When one person can do all this, why can’t you? If all of you become like Ambedkar, this BJP government will be shaken, they will be lost. Rahul Gandhi is fighting for you, he did a padayatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir… for whom? For you!”
