Civil surgeon’s appeal to take precautions to protect against loo

17 May 2024, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar – Civil surgeon Devinder Kumar, the civil surgeon at  health department has taken measures to protect people from common diseases in summer and monsoon season.
The Civil Surgeon said that the District Health Department had already made adequate arrangements to deal with potential health hazards during the summer and monsoon season so that immediate medical assistance could be ensured for the affected people.

He also informed that beds have been reserved for patients with heat-related health problems in government hospitals of the district. In addition, capacity building of medical officers to effectively manage such cases has been enhanced. Adequate amount of ORS in government hospitals. Adequate medicines are available including packet supply.
He said that small children, pregnant women, people suffering from obesity, elderly people, people suffering from heart diseases should take extra precautions in summer season.

To avoid heat, one should not go out in the sun from 12 noon to 3 pm, drink water every half hour. He said that while going out, one should wear light colored cotton clothes covering the whole body, use an umbrella, hat, towel or dupatta to cover the head from direct sunlight and should not go in the sun with bare feet. Seasonal fruits and vegetables like watermelon, melon, orange, grape, cucumber, tomato, ghee and tori should be used more as they contain more water content. He said to start the exercise slowly and gradually increase it so that it suits the body temperature. Do not use cigarettes, tobacco, beedi and alcohol. Use of tea, coffee should be kept to a minimum. Fried, foreign and stale food should be avoided.

Dr. Davinder Kumar appealed to the residents of the district to sincerely follow the necessary precautions mentioned by the health department and said that in case of high fever due to the risk of heatstroke, common medicines should not be used and the person should be treated as soon as possible. If possible, take him to the nearest hospital and start appropriate treatment from expert doctors.
