25 July, Punjab: Congress has not taken any responsibility for controversial statements passed by their party member Charanjit Singh Channi in the context of Amritpal Singh.
MP from Jalandhar, Charanjit Singh Channi (Congress) got fired at the Central government for curbing the right of an independently elected MP Amritpal Singh.
Amritpal Singh, who has been in limelight for preaching the Idea of Khalistan won Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from Khadoor Sahib constituency as an independent candidate. Amritpal Singh is in Jail under National Security Act (NSA), he was brought to the parliament to complete his oath taking procedure and then he was sent back to jail.
The idea of keeping an elected MP in jail didn’t suit Channi well and he raised his concerns in the Parliament. BJP leaders backfired at Channi for advocating Amritpal Singh in the parliament. Amidst all this Indian National Congress (INC) has issued a statement clarifying that whatever Channi has said in the context of Amritpal Singh is completely his personal views and the party has no say in it.
According to BJP MP’s the matter of Amritpal Singh is before the court, and his rights as a MP are not being violated intentionally. MPs from BJP are also trolling Channi for supporting a Khalistan Preacher saying, “has he forget why his party supremo Indira Gandhi was assassinated”?
Was Charanjit Singh Channi right in this context?
