2 August, Chandigarh: Compared to the GST collected during the same period last year, Chandigarh’s collection of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) increased by 8% last month.
The Ministry of Finance reports that the amount of GST collected in July of this year was Rs 233 crore, which is Rs 16 crore more than the amount collected in the same month of 2023 (217 crore).
Information about the taxes collected during January and June of this year was withheld by the ministry.
The Union Territory Administration had projected a GST collection of Rs 178 crore for May of this year which is a rise of 6% above the amount received in the same period last year.
According to a department of excise and taxes official, increased compliance efforts such as audits, inspections, and scrutinies were the reason for the increase in collections.
In July of last year, the GST collection increased by 23% to Rs 217 crore, which was Rs 41 crore more than the Rs 176 crore received in the same month in 2022.
