Ottawa, April 11: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said relations between India and Canada could improve if both countries prioritize transparency and mutual respect.
Carney noted that responsibility lies with both sides to restore strong diplomatic ties.
Carney’s remarks come amid a continuing diplomatic chill that followed the June 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had alleged potential involvement of Indian diplomats in the killing, a charge India strongly denied.
Carney’s statement signals a possible shift in tone from Ottawa, as both governments navigate a complex phase in their bilateral relationship.
