New Orleans, 1 January 2025 – Ten people lost their lives, and 30 others were injured when a vehicle struck a crowd gathered at Canal and Bourbon Street in New Orleans during the early hours of New Year’s Day. The city’s emergency preparedness agency, NOLA Ready, urged the public to steer clear of the area as police and rescue teams managed the aftermath of the tragedy.
New Orleans Police Superintendent Robert Montrell described the event as “deeply tragic” and assured that a full investigation is underway. “We are committed to uncovering the facts and delivering accountability,” he added.
The crash occurred shortly after New Year’s celebrations had wrapped up and just hours before the Allstate Bowl at Caesars Superdome, a major college football quarterfinal that was set to draw thousands of fans. The area has been cordoned off as investigators work to determine the cause of the incident.
