Bumrah becomes first fast bowler from India to be named the best Test player

Jasprit Bumrah becomes the best test player of 2024.

27 January 2025- Indian team’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named the best Test cricketer of 2024. Apart from India’s star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, England’s experienced batsman Joe Root, England’s young batsman Harry Brook and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis were also nominated for this award, but Bumrah beat all of them and won the award.

Bumrah impressed in 2024

Bumrah recently completed 200 wickets in Tests. Bumrah has been the best bowler in Test cricket in 2024. He took 71 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 14.92 and a strike rate of 30.16, which is the best performance of any bowler in the traditional format. The ICC considered Bumrah’s match-changing spell in Perth as one of his most memorable performances, thanks to which India won by 295 runs.

Best performance in Australia

In the last calendar year, Bumrah performed his best ever by taking 71 wickets and was the most successful bowler in this format. Whether it was favorable conditions for fast bowlers in South Africa and Australia or difficult conditions for fast bowlers at home, Bumrah performed impressively throughout the year. This fast bowler gave his best performance during India’s tour of Australia.

Bumrah joined the list of legends

After taking 71 wickets, Bumrah became the fourth Indian bowler to take more than 70 Test wickets in a calendar year. In this way, he joined the list of Ravichandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev.
Before Bumrah, Rahul Dravid (2004), Gautam Gambhir (2009), Virender Sehwag (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016) and Virat Kohli (2018) have also received this award. Bumrah, however, is the first fast bowler from India to be named the best Test player of the year.

Bumrah was injured on the Australia tour

Bumrah was suffering from back problems during the fifth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Due to this, he was not selected for the T20 series against England, while he is also out of the first two matches of the ODI series. Apart from this, his playing in the third ODI is also not certain. The experienced bowler has also been selected in the 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy, but his playing in this tournament will depend entirely on fitness.

BCCI congratulated Bumrah

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has congratulated Jasprit Bumrah on becoming the best Test cricketer. The board wrote on the X, ‘Game changer Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024. Bumrah took 71 wickets at an impressive average of 14.92, becoming the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket in 2024.’
