Gurdaspur, Punjab, 21 December 2024 — A loud explosion-like sound outside the Wadala Bangar police chowki in Gurdaspur district on Friday night raised alarms, leading to an immediate investigation by local authorities. The incident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. on December 22, 2024, triggered panic among nearby residents, though police later confirmed that no evidence of an actual explosion was found.
This marks the third such occurrence in just a week. A blast at the Islamabad police station in Amritsar on December 17 had raised similar concerns, though it resulted in no injuries. In both cases, the loud noises were initially mistaken for explosions, but investigations revealed no significant damage or explosives.
“After receiving reports from locals and the control room about the noise, senior officers quickly responded to the site. Upon investigation, we found shattered glass and a brick on the ground, but no other signs of an explosion,” stated Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dayama Harish Kumar Om Prakash.
Kumar was joined by Superintendent of Police (SP) Jugraj Singh and other senior officers, who visited the site to assess the situation. “We are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the sound and to ensure there is no threat to public safety,” Kumar added.
This incident follows a similar suspected blast outside the Bakshiwal police chowki in Gurdaspur on December 20, which led to speculation about the involvement of extremist groups. An unverified social media post claimed that the Khalistan Zindabad Force, a separatist faction, was responsible for these disturbances. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the group’s involvement.
As the investigation continues, the police remain on high alert, examining all potential leads while urging the public to stay vigilant. Authorities are committed to determining the cause of these disturbing events and ensuring the safety of the local community.
