Axar Fined Rs 12 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate

by TheReportingTimes

NEW DELHI, April 14: — Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s 12-run loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match No. 29 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement on Sunday confirming the penalty, citing it as DC’s first offence under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. “As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patel was fined INR 12 lakh,” the release noted.

Mumbai posted 205 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Delhi fell short, getting bowled out for 193 in 19 overs, marking their first defeat of the tournament.

While leading the side in the absence of regular skipper Rishabh Pant, Axar’s personal form has also come under scrutiny. In five matches, the all-rounder has failed to take a wicket and has managed just 67 runs with the bat.

DC management has not commented on whether leadership changes are being considered. The franchise now faces pressure to bounce back after the setback.
