New Delhi: Nayab Singh Saini, the chief minister of Haryana, attacked Delhi counterpart Atishi and the Aam Aadmi Party government on Sunday, claiming they were trying to shift the blame for the Yamuna River’s poor water quality.
Haryana’s CM Saini demanded an explanation from AAP on how the money allocated under “Yamuna Action Plan” was utilized
“I think AAP’s Delhi government is habitual of lying and blaming others for their own mistakes. Delhi government is habitual of seeing shortcomings in everyone but themselves. BOD (Biochemical oxygen demand) of water given by Haryana to Delhi is about 2-3 mg per litre. BOD of water supplied to Delhi through CLC canal is almost zero. But Delhi government should tell who is responsible for the 28 drains of dirty water going into Yamuna from Delhi water to Okhla,” Saini said.
Saini also questioned how Rs 6,000 crore—including Rs 3,000 crore provided in the last two years—was used under the Yamuna Action Plan. He demanded an explanation from AAP on how the money was used.
Saini responded to Atishi’s allegations against the BJP, who alleged that “industrious waste being dumped into the river by factories in Haryana is the real cause of the toxic foam in the Yamuna.”
AAP came under fire from BJP
Virendra Sachdeva, the BJP chief in Delhi, claimed on Sunday that the city’s extreme air pollution is causing breathing difficulties for over half of its citizens. He criticized Arvind Kejriwal, CM Atishi and other AAP leaders for ignoring the problem.
Sachdeva further attributed the cause of dust pollution on potholes and bad road conditions.
“It’s hard for Delhi residents to breathe. Over 50% of people have respiratory problems. Why? because of Arvind Kejriwal’s corruption,” he continued.
The state BJP chief’s statement was made in response to the AAP government’s accusation that buses from Uttar Pradesh were to blame for the deteriorating air quality, particularly in places like Anand Vihar where the air quality index (AQI) had hit “severe” levels.
