Assam CM Himanta Sarma aims to curb the illegal influx of Bangladeshi’s

Assam, September 8: According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, all new applicants for Aadhaar cards in Assam must include their NRC application receipt number (ARN), which was announced on Saturday.

Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that “Assam administration will be very strict when distributing Aadhaar cards to control the illegal entrance of migrants into the state “

He stated that a thorough standard operating procedure (SOP) would be created for the objective, and that it will go into effect from October 1.

According to him, the “influx of illegal foreigners” will cease with the submission of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) application receipt number, and the state administration will be “very strict” when distributing Aadhaar cards.

“There are more Aadhaar card applications than there are people in the state. It indicates that there are doubtful citizens. We have decided that new applicants will need to submit their NRC application receipt number (ARN),” the chief minister stated at a news conference held here.

He further remarked, “It will not be easy to get Aadhaar in Assam and hopefully, other states will also be strict in issuing Aadhaar cards.” According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the 9.55 lakh individuals whose biometrics were locked during the NRC process are not required to submit the ARN and will receive their cards.

Additionally, it won’t apply in tea garden areas, where many people lack Aadhaar cards due to practical problems like the unavailability of adequate biometric machines, the CM said.

There have been “more applications for Aadhaar cards than their total projected population” in four districts, according to Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He claims that the state governments now have the authority to determine whether or not to grant an individual an Aadhaar card, as directed by the central government.

In Assam, we have made the decision to only issue Aadhaar cards to new applicants following the district commissioner’s nod of approval. These certificates will be issued following a thorough inspection of every detail. It is evident that the applicant was in the state before to 2014 if he possesses the NRC ARN, according to Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The chief minister claimed his government will “intensify the process of identification of illegal foreigners as several Bangladeshis were apprehended in the last two months and handed over to the authorities of the neighboring country”.

Recent reports suggest a “increase in the number of illegal immigrants being detected, necessitating intensified efforts across the state to proactively curb the movement of illegal migrants while also taking steps for returning these individuals”, he pointed out.

According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, in order to identify and stop unauthorized border crossings, patrolling and surveillance would be increased in regions under border outpost jurisdiction.
