ARO SAS Nagar completes commissioning of EVMs and VVPATs

May 24, 2024, SAS Nagar–  Commissioning (preparedness for poll day) of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPAT) machines for their usage on polling day (June 1, 2024) has been completed in 53-SAS Nagar this evening, said Assistant Returning Officer for 06-Anandpur sahib, parliamentary constituency and SDM Mohali, Depankar Garg. Reviewing the preparation of EVMs and VVPATs at Sports Complex, 78, Mohali strong room, SDM Garg said that the commissioning was started in the presence of representatives of political parties. As many as 502 Ballot Units (for 28 Candidates+ 1 NOTA), 251 Control Units and 251 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails were prepared for final installation on poll day at 251 polling booths of the assembly segment SAS Nagar (Mohali).
The entire work was done fairly and transparently in the presence of the representatives of the various political parties/representatives of contesting candidates, he further added. A total of 5 per cent (13) EVMs and VVPATs were also tested through a mock poll of 1000 votes on each by picking randomly. He said that apart from that 20 per cent of BUs, CUs and VVPATs have been kept in reserve in case of replacement due to technical snag on poll day. The ballot units have been fixed with Ballot paper with the names, snaps and symbols who are contesting for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Anandpur Sahib PC. He said that each of these machines would be installed at 251 polling booths on polling day. He added that the primary motive of the inspection is to ensure polling for Lok sabha Elections in a free, fair and transparent manner. He also held detailed interactions with the engineers of the Engineers of Bharat Electric Limited (BEL), who have been assigned the duty of preparing these machines. He said that this exercise is the most important part of elections to ensuring poll integrity smooth, hassle-free and transparent manner. As many as 25 Supervisors along with 2 BEL Engineers done the job successfully.
