Animal Husbandry Department Observes World Zoonosis Day with the commitment to prevent its transmission to human beings

Anti-Rabies Vaccination administered to 32 Canines

SAS Nagar, July 6, 2024:
In line observance of World Zoonosis Day across the Punjab today, a seminar was conducted at Chandigarh University Gharuan Department of Animal Husbandry, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar.
Inaugurating the seminar, Dr Shivkant Gupta, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry briefed on the importance of World Zoonosis Day. He laid special emphasis on the severity, impact and prevention of diseases (zoonotic diseases) transmitted from animals to humans. Dr Shivkant Gupta said that according to the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization, World Zoonosis Day is celebrated every year on July 6, the main purpose of which is to prevent animal-to-human diseases such as Rabies, Bird-flu, Leptospirosis, Brucellosis etc. by creating awareness in the society.
Among others who participated in the seminar prominently included Dr Lokesh Kumar, Assistant Director Animal Husbandry, SAS Nagar and Dr Sunil Kumar Medical Officer Gharuan.
Apart from that an anti-rabies camp was organized to mark the World Zoonosis Day at Veterinary Polyclinic Balongi by Animal Husbandry Department.
This camp was inaugurated by Dr Lokesh Kumar Kajal, Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry, SAS Nagar. About 32 canines were vaccinated against rabies in this camp. The participant pet owners were also given information about the importance of World Zoonosis Day. Special emphasis was laid on the severity, impact and prevention of zoonotic diseases transmitted from animals to humans.
