Mohali, March 11— Frustrated by mounting garbage and administrative neglect, around 50 residents, including women and senior citizens, joined a cleanup drive in Aerocity, led by Aerocity Welfare and Development Committee (Block C) chairman R. Tuli.
Tuli criticized government officials for ignoring the area despite its prime location near the international airport. “GMADA has ignored this area for nearly nine months. Even VIPs and officials passing through Airport Road see the filth, yet they take no action,” he said. Residents have repeatedly complained, but no steps have been taken, he added.
The unchecked waste has also led to a rise in stray dogs, who frequently chase and attack pedestrians. With no response from authorities, the community has resolved to continue the cleanup drive until GMADA intervenes. Residents have also demanded strict measures to curb illegal dumping and encroachments along Airport Road.
Tuli also raised concerns over unregulated roadside vendors and unauthorized structures.
“Shopkeepers have occupied government land, built permanent structures, and continue to dump waste irresponsibly. Meanwhile, GMADA collects high development charges but fails to provide even basic amenities,” he said.
Calling for greater participation in the drive, he urged residents to join efforts and pressed GMADA officials to address the worsening sanitation crisis in Aerocity.
