Mumbai, 19 December 2024: Although Laapataa Ladies (Lost Ladies) did not make the 2025 Oscar shortlist for Best International Feature Film, Aamir Khan Productions remains optimistic about the film’s journey and the recognition it received. The film, which was selected as India’s official entry, failed to progress but the producers expressed immense pride and gratitude for the support they garnered along the way.
In a statement, Aamir Khan Productions said, “While it’s disappointing that Laapataa Ladies did not make it to the Academy Awards shortlist, we are deeply thankful for the support we’ve received throughout the process. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Academy members, the FFI jury, and everyone who supported the film.”
The statement also accentuated the honor of being considered in such a prestigious selection process, with the team acknowledging audiences worldwide who have shown love for the film. “To be part of this global recognition and to be shortlisted alongside such outstanding films is an achievement in itself. We send our congratulations to all the shortlisted films and wish them the best in the next stages.”
Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies was chosen by the Film Federation of India as the country’s entry for the Oscars, though some critics suggested All We Imagine As Light by Payal Kapadia might have been a more competitive option. Regardless, the team remains positive and committed to bringing more impactful stories to the global stage.
“We see this as a step forward and not the end,” the statement concluded. “We remain focused on creating and sharing powerful stories with the world, and thank everyone for their continued support.”
