MI vs LSG: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) fined Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, Rs 24 million on Sunday for playing sluggish overs. His side lost by 54 runs in the game against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. Following this, Lucknow’s net run rate dropped to -0.325, and with 10 points, the team is currently in sixth place.
The slow overrate cost 24 lakh rupees
The team’s skipper was fined just 12 lakh rupees for his slow over rate, by the way. However, because this was Pant’s and his team’s second error of the season, they were penalized Rs 24 lakh for making the same mistake twice. The IPL code of conduct stipulates that players who are part of LSG’s playing eleven against the Mumbai Indians must pay 6 lakh rupees or 25% of the match money, whichever is less, in addition to the 24 lakh rupee fine imposed on Pant.
For the first time, overrate maintenance was not maintained
Earlier, in the April 4 IPL 2025 encounter, Rishabh Pant and his club LSG were penalized for their poor over rate. Coincidentally, that game, which took place at Lucknow’s Ikana Stadium, was also against the Mumbai Indians. Pant had to pay a fine of 12 lakh rupees since, for the first time in that match, he was unable to keep the over rate up as captain.
Every run of IPL’s most expensive player is worth Rs 24.50 lakh
Rishabh Pant is the most expensive player not only in IPL 2025 but in the entire IPL history. He was bought by LSG for Rs 27 crore. But, Pant’s game has not been as good as the money spent by LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka on him. In the 10 matches played so far in IPL 2025, Pant has been able to score only 110 runs at an average of 12.22 and a strike rate of less than 100. This means that every run scored by him is costing LSG owner Rs 24.5 crore.
