New Delhi, April 22: During his first visit to India, US Vice President JD Vance lauded the country’s resilience and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Vance, who is accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children, shared personal reflections on the vitality and optimism he observed in India.
“India is different,” Vance said. “In many countries, there’s a flatness, a sameness, a desire to just be like everyone else, but in India, there’s a vitality, a sense of infinite possibility, and a pride in being Indian. It’s a striking contrast to the West, where some of our leaders seem gripped by self-doubt and fear of the future.”
Reflecting on India’s rich history and vibrant culture, Vance expressed amazement at the country’s ability to balance ancient traditions with a forward-focused mindset. “I am amazed by the ancient beauty of the architecture and the richness of India’s history, but also by India’s laser-like focus on the future,” he added.
Vance also praised Modi’s leadership, acknowledging the widespread admiration for the Prime Minister despite criticism from parts of the Western world. “I told Prime Minister Modi last night that his approval ratings would make me jealous,” Vance said, referring to the Prime Minister’s popularity.
During a dinner at Modi’s residence, Vance recalled how his seven-year-old son, Ewan, was so impressed by the experience that he asked, “Dad, do you think I could live in India?” Vance noted that Modi’s personal warmth and attention to his children left a lasting impression. “Modi even brought a gift for our son on his birthday,” Vance shared, expressing his gratitude for the gesture.
Vance spoke highly of Modi’s leadership, drawing comparisons to former President Donald Trump. “Like President Trump, Prime Minister Modi inspires remarkable loyalty due to his deep belief in his people and country,” Vance said. He went on to add that Modi’s tough negotiating style and his ability to drive a hard bargain are qualities that earn him respect globally.
The Vice President’s visit, which is scheduled from April 21-24, underscores the growing ties between the US and India, with both nations focusing on shared goals in the future.
