KURUKSHETRA, April 20 — In the wake of multiple fire incidents across villages in Kurukshetra, the district administration has begun assessing losses to provide relief to affected farmers and residents. The blaze, which swept through at least ten villages, including Diwana, Mangna, Chanderbhan Pura, Jyotisar, Khaspur, and Dyalpur, has left behind a trail of destruction.
According to Deputy Director Agriculture Karam Chand, approximately 57 acres of standing wheat crop belonging to 34 farmers were destroyed, estimating losses around Rs 32 lakh.
“Dry fodder, crop residue, tractor trailers, farm machines, sheds, and even household items like coolers were gutted,” said an official involved in the survey. A newly built house in one of the villages was also reduced to rubble.
Farmers have reported significant losses, both personal and agricultural. Rameshwar, a farmer from Khaspur, said his entire wheat crop on a four-acre leased field was lost. “This is a huge financial blow. Everything’s gone,” he said.
Another farmer, Gurnam Singh, described the close call with death. “The fire reached our house. We managed to escape, but a buffalo and calf we had recently bought were killed. We urge the government to support us,” he said.
Political representatives have visited the sites to assess the situation firsthand and assure aid. Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora met with victims in Chanderbhan Pura, assuring them of support. “All necessary help will be provided,” he said.
Former Thanesar MLA and BJP leader Subhash Sudha also visited the affected belt. “The government stands with the farmers in these difficult times. We have conveyed to them that compensation will be arranged,” he said.
Pehowa MLA Mandeep Chatha noted that Diwana, Mangna, and Thana villages were among the hardest hit. “Around 10 acres of wheat were destroyed. There’s property damage as well, and two individuals sustained minor burns. The fire department responded effectively, and we will push for government aid,” Chatha stated.
The district administration has instructed its field teams to speed up the loss assessment. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonu Bhatt said, “The damage report will be prepared by Sunday. Once finalised, it will be forwarded to the government to initiate the compensation process.”
