Chandigarh, April 9 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed officials to organise a special Kisan Milni at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, on April 12 to guide farmers on efficient and sustainable paddy cultivation techniques.
Chairing a meeting at his official residence, the Chief Minister said the initiative would focus on educating farmers about water-saving practices, innovative transplantation methods, and promoting high-yielding paddy varieties approved by PAU.
“The idea is to make farmers aware of the best techniques that use less water and offer better yields,” Mann said, adding that agricultural experts will lead the session.
He also announced that the state government has advanced the paddy sowing season from June 1 to avoid issues of high moisture during October harvests, which often delay procurement.
“To ensure smooth implementation, Punjab will be divided into zones and a phased sowing plan will be put in place,” he said.
The CM noted that this staggered approach will help manage resources more efficiently and reduce pressure during procurement.
Mann also warned of strict action against those selling spurious seeds, reiterating the government’s resolve to safeguard farmers’ interests.
