Chandigarh, April 8: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann turned down a Y+ security cover offered by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) last year, said sources quoted by The Tribune Tuesday.
The offer was made on the recommendation of the central government. Mann, however, refused the proposal, becoming one of the few leaders to opt out of VIP protection by the paramilitary force.
At present, the CRPF provides security to 206 VVIPs and VIPs across the country.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also extended security by the CRPF, and currently holds Z+ protection.
Sources also said Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) chief Sharad Pawar was offered Z category security during the 2024 general elections, but he, too, declined the cover.
