Panchkula, April 6: An early morning fire gutted Raunak Sweet Shop and Restaurant in Chandigarh’s Sector 20 on Saturday, causing significant damage but no injuries.
The fire broke out around 7 a.m., while the shop was still closed. Fire department officials said the blaze likely started due to a short-circuit, though police are investigating the exact cause.
By the time firefighters arrived, flames had already engulfed much of the interior. “We responded quickly and managed to douse the fire, but goods worth lakhs were already lost,” a fire official said.
Crews remained at the scene for several hours, working to bring the situation under control and prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent buildings.
A police official at the site mentioned that a formal inquiry is underway to determine the circumstances. “We’ve taken note of the preliminary findings and are verifying them through technical inspection,” the official added.
