Chandigarh Records First 35°C Day of the Year

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, March 28 — The city recorded its first 35°C day of the year on Thursday, with the maximum temperature reaching 35.1°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This marked a rise from 34.3°C on Wednesday and was 3.5 degrees above normal.

IMD Chandigarh director Surender Paul said the absence of active Western Disturbances (WD) will lead to hotter and drier conditions in the coming days. “Temperatures are expected to remain above average,” he said. Although a WD is active over Jammu and Kashmir, it has had little impact on the region.

Thursday’s temperature matched last year’s March 29 high of 35.1°C. However, it remained below the all-time March record of 38.2°C, set at the airport on March 25, 2010.

Night temperatures also climbed, with the minimum rising from 17.5°C on Wednesday to 18.5°C on Thursday, 0.6 degrees above normal. According to IMD, the maximum temperature over the next three days is expected to range between 33°C and 35°C, while the minimum will hover between 16°C and 19°C.
