CHANDIGARH, March 11 –Punjab’s 10-day-old anti-drug campaign has resulted in 1,360 arrests and 988 FIRs, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Aman Arora said, describing the enforcement action as a major step in tackling the drug menace.

Addressing a press conference, Arora said police had seized 1,035 kg of heroin, opium, and synthetic drugs, along with 6.81 lakh drug pills and ₹36 lakh in cash. “These figures underscore the government’s determination to eliminate drugs from Punjab,” he said.

Authorities have also demolished 24 properties allegedly linked to drug traffickers, seizing assets worth crores. Nineteen traffickers sustained injuries after police opened fire in self-defense during raids.

Arora warned smugglers to either leave Punjab or face consequences, accusing previous governments of protecting drug networks.

A Cabinet Committee, including Arora, Harpal Singh Cheema, Laljit Singh Bhullar, and Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, has been formed to oversee the campaign.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Balbir Singh is supervising de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts.

“This time, the Punjab government and police are systematically working to root out drugs from the state,” Arora said.
