by TheReportingTimes

Ludhiana, March 9– A rescue operation has been ongoing for 20 hours after a factory collapsed in Phase 8, Focal Point, on Saturday evening.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the fire department have rescued more than a dozen workers, while two remain feared trapped under the debris.

One worker, identified as Jitender from Bihar, was found dead when pulled from the wreckage.

The missing workers have been identified as Bunty (37), a Ludhiana resident, and Lallan Yadav from Bihar. Their family members have been waiting outside the site since last night, holding on to hope.

“NDRF personnel have been working overnight to clear the debris carefully,” Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal said.

“We are hopeful the trapped workers will be rescued alive.”

The collapse occurred around 5:30 p.m. during renovation work when the ground floor’s roof gave way, triggering the upper floors to cave in.
