Sitapur, 30 January 2025- In Sitapur, UP, on Thursday, the police arrested Congress MP Rakesh Rathore, accused of rape. A woman from Sadar assembly constituency had filed a case in Sadar Kotwali accusing Congress MP Rakesh Rathore of Sitapur of sexual exploitation.
The city Kotwali police arrested the MP from his residence in Loharbagh. According to the family members of the MP, the MP was about to surrender after holding a press conference. During this time, the police reached and arrested him.
The anticipatory bail plea of Congress MP Rakesh Rathore, accused of rape, was heard in the High Court on Wednesday. This hearing was done by the Judge Rajesh Kumar Singh. Advocates Atul Verma, Somesh Tripathi and Arvind Verma presented their case on behalf of the MP. At the same time, the government advocate argued on behalf of the victim.
After the hearing, the single bench rejected the MP’s petition and ordered him to surrender within two weeks. Earlier, the CJM court had issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the MP on Monday.
It is worth noting that the second notice was issued to the MP on January 25 in the rape case. After this, he was given a chance to appear at the police station at 11 am on January 27 and record his statement. He did not reach the police station on Monday. After this, the police got an arrest warrant issued from the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Gaurav Prakash.
