Voting will be done first for Mayor and then for Senior Deputy Mayor
Election of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will be held at 11 am in the Municipal Corporation office located in Sector-17. First of all, voting will be done for the post of Mayor and then votes will be cast for Senior Deputy Mayor and then Deputy Mayor. Voting will be done through ballot paper. This election has become even more special because the ruling AAP-Congress alliance has full numbers to win the election but claims of victory are being made from the BJP side. This time the presiding officer will be nominated councilor Ramnik Singh Bedi. To avoid the controversial incidents that happened last time, strict security and cameras will be arranged this time.
Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are contesting the elections in alliance this time too. In the alliance, Aam Aadmi Party will contest on the Mayor seat and Congress candidate will contest on the seat of Senior Deputy Mayor. The public does not vote in the election of Mayor of Chandigarh. The councillors elected by the public cast their votes in this election. In last year’s election, the presiding officer Anil Masih had spoilt eight votes of the alliance, after which the matter had reached the Supreme Court. Special arrangements are being made to ensure that this does not happen this time.
