by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, 2 January 2025: In a bid to enhance the efficiency and revenue of public transport, the Punjab Government is set to outsource the management of state bus stands. Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar directed officials to begin preparations for the contract system after a key meeting in Chandigarh with senior department officers.

The Transport Minister emphasized the importance of achieving higher revenue targets this year, mirroring the success of last year’s performance. He proposed contracting out bus stands to ensure better management, increased revenue, and improved cleanliness at these locations.

Additionally, the government plans to expand its bus services across the state, particularly on routes with minimal government coverage and a higher presence of private buses. Bhullar highlighted the need to prioritize routes where the government can offer free bus services for women. He instructed officials to compile a list of such routes within 15 days.

The minister also disclosed plans to bolster the fleets of Punjab Roadways and PRTC with new buses, aiming to improve service delivery. Furthermore, he directed the Transport Commissioner’s office to expedite the process of recovering dues from tax defaulters and ensure public transport services run more effectively and punctually throughout the year.
