Punjab Officials Meet Dallewal Amid Hunger Strike

by TheReportingTimes

Khanauri, 2 January 2025: Punjab government officials held talks with farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal at Khanauri on Wednesday, seeking his consent for medical treatment as his hunger strike reached its 37th day.

Leading the state delegation, former additional DGP Jaskaran Singh said the team engaged with farmer representatives to address concerns about Dallewal’s health. “We are working to find a peaceful solution,” Singh said.

The Supreme Court had earlier granted the Punjab government until December 31 to convince Dallewal to accept medical care, permitting them to request support from the Centre if needed.

On Tuesday, a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Sudhanshu Dhulia reviewed a request from Punjab for a three-day extension to fulfill the December 20 directive to move Dallewal to a hospital. The court has scheduled further proceedings for January 2.

State representatives informed the bench that Dallewal tentatively agreed to medical treatment on the condition that the Centre would hold discussions on his demands.
