Over 33,500 Devotees Benefit from Punjab’s Free Pilgrimage Scheme

Chandigarh, December 30, 2024: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has enabled more than 33,500 devotees to undertake religious pilgrimages at no cost under the Mukh Mantri Teerth Yatra Yojana. This initiative, launched on November 27, 2023, commemorates the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and promotes peace and harmony.

The scheme offers free transportation, meals, and accommodation for pilgrims visiting prominent religious destinations, including Sri Hazur Sahib, Varanasi, Mathura, Ajmer Sharif, Sri Vaishno Devi, and others. Pilgrimages are arranged via special buses and trains, with each bus accommodating up to 43 passengers.

Participants are provided complimentary kits containing items such as blankets, bedsheets, towels, and toiletries.

Besides, medical teams, volunteers, and officials accompany the travelers to ensure their safety and well-being throughout the journey.

Eligible applicants must be Punjab residents aged 60 or older and submit documents like Aadhaar cards, voter ID, and proof of age. Those above 75 years are allowed to take along a caregiver for assistance. Selected participants receive notifications through SMS, ensuring smooth coordination.
