Court Grants Bail to Pilot’s Boyfriend in Suicide Case

by TheReportingTimes

Mumbai, 27 December 2024; A local court on Friday granted bail to Aditya Pandit, boyfriend of Air India pilot Srishti Tuli, who allegedly died by suicide last month.

Tuli, 25, was discovered dead in her rented apartment at the ‘Kanakia Rain Forest’ building in Marol on November 25. Pandit was arrested the following day and charged with abetment of suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The case stems from a complaint filed by Tuli’s father, who claimed that tensions between the couple might have led to her death. According to the complaint, Pandit and Tuli had been staying together for five or six days before he traveled to Delhi on the day of the incident.

A key allegation was the couple’s ongoing disagreements over food preferences, as Tuli, a non-vegetarian, was reportedly pressured by Pandit, a vegetarian, to change her diet.

Pandit’s lawyer, Aniket Nikam, argued in court that the evidence failed to establish a case of abetment to suicide. “Arguments or disagreements in a relationship cannot be equated to criminal intent,” Nikam contended, adding that the charge required clear proof of instigation.

In his bail application, Pandit said he had tried calling Tuli multiple times while en route to Delhi but received no response. Alarmed, he returned to Mumbai, where he found the door to her flat locked from the inside.

Judge T.T. Aglawe of the Dindoshi Sessions Court granted Pandit bail. The detailed order is yet to be released.
