Chandigarh, 25 December 2024: The city witnessed a spike in temperature on Tuesday as sunny weather raised the maximum temperature to 20.1°C from 13.7°C recorded on Monday. However, colder conditions are anticipated later this week, with rain likely around December 27, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD officials have indicated that the current weather pattern, combined with increased moisture, could lead to moderate to dense fog in the coming days. “Though there was no fog on Tuesday, its occurrence in the next few days could reduce day temperatures further,” an IMD representative said.
Minimum temperature decreased slightly, dropping from 9.3°C on Monday to 8.4°C on Tuesday, which is 1.4°C above the normal average. Over the next three days, maximum temperatures are expected to remain steady between 19°C and 20°C, while minimum temperatures may vary between 6°C and 9°C.
Cleaner Air Quality Follows Rain
Rainfall has brought significant improvement to the city’s air quality. The Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped to 150 on Tuesday, classified as moderate by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This is a notable improvement from earlier levels exceeding 200, which were categorized as poor.
With fog, rain, and colder temperatures on the horizon, the city is bracing for fluctuating weather conditions, officials said.
