28 July, Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, expressed his condolences on Sunday for the loss of three students who perished as a result of flooding in a Delhi based coaching center’s basement. The Raebareli MP claimed that the governments should be in charge of ensuring the safety of all citizens, referring to it as a “collective failure of the system”.
“It is terribly regrettable that competitive youngsters in Delhi lost their lives as a result of waterlogging in a building’s basement. A pupil passed away from electric shock during the rainy season a few days ago. I offer my sincere condolences to all the families who have lost a loved one.” Gandhi Tweeted.
“The system as a whole failed, by losing his life, the average citizen is bearing the price of dangerous building practices, shoddy urban planning, and institutional irresponsibility at all levels. Every citizen has the right to a safe and comfortable existence, and governments bear the responsibility for ensuring this,” he continued.
Nevin Dalwin (28), Tania Soni (25), and Shreya Yadav (25), perished following flooding in Rau’s IAS Study Circle basement in Old Rajinder Nagar. There were several pupils at the library that was located in the basement.
Reportedly, the tutoring center’s owner, Abhishek Gupta, and coordinator, Deshpal Singh, have been taken into custody by the police. They are being charged with negligently causing death and culpable homicide.
