Chandigarh, March 31 — Punjab Police arrested 48 drug peddlers and seized 16.7 kg of heroin along with ₹34,300 in drug money on Monday as part of the state’s 31-day ‘War on Drugs’ campaign. The total number of peddlers arrested during the month-long operation has now reached 4,640.

The crackdown, conducted across all 28 police districts, was launched on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said over 200 teams, comprising more than 1,400 police personnel under the supervision of 99 gazetted officers, raided 518 locations across Punjab. “During the day-long operation, police registered 35 FIRs and examined 608 suspects,” Shukla said.

He added that the Punjab government is following a three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-Addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to combat drug abuse. “Under the ‘De-Addiction’ component, two individuals were induced for de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment during this phase of the campaign,” he said.
