Officials stated that the doctor had taken a break and gone to rest in the hospital’s lecture room when the accused civic volunteer allegedly committed the crime.
According to CBI officials, the charge sheet that names Roy as the primary accused contains the statements of over 200 people. They said that the question of whether there were more suspects and whether this was an instance of ‘gang rape’ is still being investigated.
The trauma the doctor had experienced was made clear by the investigations conducted after her body was discovered dead at the hospital on August 9. Amid widespread protests, the court had requested the CBI to assume control of the investigation.
In two separate instances of financial irregularities and evidence tampering, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI have also detained Sandip Ghosh, the college’s former principal.
After two months of protests, the victim’s coworkers are now going on a hunger strike in order to demand increased protection for doctors and justice in the RG Kar case.
