Kangana agreed to make changes in ‘Emergency’

In the midst of the controversy surrounding her movie Emergency, it has been claimed that director and actor Kangana Ranaut agreed to the censor board’s suggested edits for her next movie.

Kangana Ranaut agreed to make cuts in her upcoming film, ‘Emergency’ as suggested by CBFC

The Bombay High Court was notified on Monday by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) that Kangana, who is also the movie’s co-producer, had accepted changes recommended by the board’s revision committee.

The CBFC’s lawyer, Abhinav Chandrachud, presented the submission before a bench of Justices BP Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla.

Zee Studios, the movie’s co-producers, filed a petition with the court asking for the censor certificate to be issued. The appeal was submitted after the movie caused quite a sensation, with some demanding that it be banned for misrepresenting the Sikh community.

The censor board had said last week that the movie may be released after certain edits.

Advocate Sharan Jagtiani, speaking on behalf of Zee, informed the court during the Monday hearing that Kangana had agreed to the suggested cuts and asked to make sure they were the only adjustments expected.

“Not a single minute of the movie is touched by the suggested edits. It’s simply a few words here and there,” Chandrachud, the CBFC’s lawyer, remarked. With the producers seeking confirmation on the changes, the hearing has been rescheduled for Thursday.

Emergency co-produced by Manikarnika Films and Zee Studios, was scheduled to release in cinemas on September 6. Taking to X, Kangana wrote on that day, “With a heavy heart I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed, we are still waiting for the certification from censor board, new release date will be announced soon, thanks for your understanding and patience.”

The film explores the life of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who declared a 21-month emergency situation from 1975 to 1977. It is a biographical political thriller. Kangana plays the former prime minister in the movie. For a while now, Emergency has been involved in controversy and has received criticism from a number of Sikh organizations.

Shiromani Akali Dal and other Sikh organizations protested to the biographical drama, claiming it misrepresented the community and misinterpreted historical events.
